I'm usually looking for weak DX stations during a contest. I crank my bandwidth down to 25Hz if requred. However, I watch the panadapter display to check who is calling outside my passband. There are so many stations with keyclicks it still is hard to hear. They often are heard +/- 2kHz. In thought I was clean til I checked closely. There are mods to fix this.
