Hi, I have had #16 bare copper for radial wire on my 80m 4 sq for 16 years
now. Every Fall I check for continuity and resistance from 40 random choice
radials (out of 120 each vertical) one foot from the vertical base and to the
base of the vertical element. I also pull back and expose 2 feet of the
copper that is covered with leaves and pine needls. Never have had to fix
any radial or connection. The array plays extremely well. Steve, K1PEK

 a pair of 80 / 160 inverted L's, I found the radial wire had
rusted heavily in only a few years (3 or 4?). They disintegrated
 in a few more.

At my previous QTH I had used ALUMINUM welding wire which
was still strong and intact after 3 years.

My insulated stranded radials hold up to all elements except
the lawnmower! (The terrain in my woods is pretty rough)
