"You" have to ask yourself honestly... 

Have you EVER seen a damaged concrete base on a tower due to lightning?  didnt 
think so.

Of all the thousands of bridges in this country... Most sit on concrete 
footings, piers, etc. They ALL get whacked by lightning. have you ever seen a 
failure?  Didnt think so.

Concrete buildings... they all have steel in them... All bonded together. They 
get hit  Have you ever seen a building failure? didnt think so.

The fancy gadgets are nice... and they might help in certain if not many cases. 

Just remember to bond things together, if you cannot run ground rods, then run 
radials many and far. Make connections low resistance. and for heavens sake, do 
what the tower manufacturer says.

Worked for me in 40 years of tower business.
