Grass has now grown up around it so not much more than the top shows. Be
sure to crown it so water runs off. This is particularly important up here
in the frozen north, albeit we are a longggg way from frozen today. Last
night's low was around 80.

I set the form up as the last part of the pour: I had a form flush with the
ground surface. When we reached that I set the "Hexagonal" form in place. I
had no problem with it floating up. I did use high strength (high fiber)
concrete. If need be you can nail or screw the smaller form to the top of
the main form. It's very easy to make. First a square and then cut a piece
to fit each corner with the ends cut 45 degrees. You do have to calculate
the length so the sides are all the same.
Just as an afterthought for a 9 X 9 area you might need to make a raised
support for the center form (allowing the trowling of the main surface) and
extend the center form down from that. In my case I just set the smaller
form on top of the larger and hit it with a hand trowl as the other surface
wasn't going to show and I only needed to get rid of spots where water might
collect and freeze even though it is covered with dirt.
