Last year I had some Rohn 45 shipped from Florida (by Bill (K4XS) before he
went to Hawaii) to Durham, NC and also some Rohn 25 and 3000' of guy wire
shipped from Texas Towers to Durham, NC. In both cases I had it held at the
shippers terminal instead of having it delivered. Fortunately, I have a
pick-up truck and could manage the final 15 miles from Durham to Chapel
Hill, NC on my own. I don't remember the exact amount of the savings, but I
think it was almost 50% less.
So, check with the major trucking companies in your area and also with the
shipper (Texas Towers was great to work with - as always) to see if any have
local terminals.
