Steve, I cant comment on the radios but if the roof of your motorhome is not
metal it would probably work OK. I have seen emergency ham control center
setups using loaded mobile antennas in a horizontal dipole configuration.
They use a short mast to get the antenna up well above the roof of the
vehicle. I suggest you read the stuff on W8JI's web page about mobile
antenna efficiency and coil Q. Capacity between the coil and metal surfaces
does bad things to efficiency. I believe that many of the screwdriver
antenna setups with the coil near the vehicle body are seriously
