Asyou say, I think this is due mainly to a bad S/N ratio problem evident on
the RX part of the game, anyway I wouldn't be surprised if the receiver is
somehow guilty (AGC, IMD, signals "jumping" the XTAL filters) because the
loud europeans BC signals take all the dynamic range and over.
When I do contest 40m seriously, I add a 3 HI q cells tunable filter
(-28dB@100 Khz) to an IC781 and this I found helps in some cases.
