What I have is a 6 foot roofer...the rotator base sits 24" down from the thrust
bearing mount surface.....Can't get much mast down in that setup. As much as
the wife is gonna grump, I think I will off the 6 footer and get a 9' Glen
Martin roof top. (45" from rotator base to top of thrust plate) Should give me
a lot more stability on the mast above the thrust bearing. The antenna I am
going to swing is a Hy-Gain THX3-MRK4..not really big...14' boom, 15' radius
with 28' element.

I **would** like to use a mast long enough so I can also swing a 40 meter
rotatable dipole, but the separation between the two antennas may be a show
stopper.

(Sure wish she would let me put a tower up. Fat chance..the antennas embarrass
her. No...I am not gonna get rid of her...we have been married for 44
years...she put up with my antenna farm when we lived in the country. She
doesn't want another here in our sub-division! LOL.)

As far as you can. I went 10' in for 13' out. But it is up to you.
