If the QSL you print is full of graphics, then yes much ink will be
consumed. If the QSL you print contains only the required textual
information, with your callsign in larger block letters, then you can
print thousands of cards on one set of ink cartridges. These cards won't
win artistic prizes, but they will are easy to read and thus get the job
done.

Fully automated real-time QSLing via eQSL.cc is available today, though
as we all know this doesn't "count" for ARRL awards; to confirm a
contact, one need only depress the CTRL key while clicking the Log
button, and the QSO information is simultaneously logged and uploaded to
eQSL.cc. The same automation will be available for LOTW when ARRL
provides the appropriate interactive interfaces; while LOTW is in beta
test, these capabilities are not yet present.

I cannot imagine it being cheaper to print the entire QSL - the ink my
printers use is too costly now - cannot imagine how much I would go
through in printing a thousand cards! For a round number - say I spend
60 dollars for QSLs... a black ink cartridge alone is 15 bucks... I
sorely doubt 4 of them could print 100 QSLs - which are in multi-color,
too...

Do not think it is an option...

To tell you the truth I cannot wait for the bugs to get ironed out of
LOTW... I REALLY hate all the expenses associated with QSLing.
