I have C4XL's with the roughly the same 40M elements as the EF140. At five
feet you will see interaction with anything you put there, whatever
orientation. Eight feet would be pushing it. I seen to remember Tom at
Force 12 saying 12 feet recommended distance. Could you model it to see
what the induced currents are? If no modeling and just guessing - don't
even consider 5 ft, get at least 10 ft.
