Andy:
If you can arrange it mechanically, paralleling two or more wires for your
gamma wire will give you a bit more bandwidth. I used two #14 stranded wires,
supported by several PVC T-shaped arms, to shunt feed my fixed, self-supporting
tower. If you have Jeff K1ZM's book on Topband DXing, you can see a photo of
his arrangement on which I based mine.
