Sorry I can't address your question about soil compaction for your anchors,
but since you're concerned about their performance, you may also want to
look into the corrosive qualities of your soil. About 20 years ago I put up
a 70' guyed structure, with 4' screw anchors in Missouri clay soil. Good
anchor. However, 15 years later, the galvanizing and steel in the anchor
shaft had deteriorated to the point that one anchor failed during a 50 MPH
wind storm (it had previously survived MUCH higher winds, ice, etc.),
sligshotting the entire tower with antennas into some nearby trees....total
destruction! It was bad. Fortunately, no injuries or other property damage.
After the debris was removed, I dug up the remnants of the failed anchor and
the steel guy anchor rod was about the diameter of a pencil! Galvanic
action, over the years, had eaten it away. If I had it to do over again, I
would anchor them in concrete, not soil.
Hope you find a solution to your soil compaction, and that your soil turns
out to be nonreactive!
