I made a pipe pin for one leg of one section of our 40’ FD tower that carries an A-4. I think it was 3/4 iron pipe. I bolted it solidly and semi permanently, carriage bolts pulled in tight. No doubt it’s stronger than originally, but I would never go to the trouble you’re facing. Too much time and too many places to get crooked. As advised, the stuff is reasonable, if you are patient. My best deal was 70’ for $150. That’s less than typical, of course. One section was that repaired and was 20-G. Still a good deal.
