All fluorescent bulbs contain minute amounts of mercury.

Proper disposal on these bulbs (both long tubular and compact styles) depends 
on if you're an industrial/commercial user or residential.

For residential, there are no requirements but for the others, they have to be 
stored and disposed of in accordance with the appropriate hazardous waste 
requirements.

So for most of us, just throw them out in the trash.
