In the 80's Wayne Overbeck, N6NB published in Ham Radio magazine some tests
that he did. He compared Yagis with quads using his mobile 70ft tower that he
parked outside the QTH's of hams.
Wayne measured the results of a trapped 2 element Hygain TH2 yagi that held its
own and in some cases had higher gain than some multiband quad designs that
were not optimized because those tools did not exist then. He also confirmed
the excellent performance of the Hygain monoband yagis with their consistent
gain. Wayne also confirmed the poor performance of the so called "xmas" tree
stack of monoband yagis and the interaction. I seem to recall that Dave Leeson
also confirmed the poor performance of the Xmas tree stack of mono-banders.

"Given the advances in computer modeling technology over the years I don't
understand how anyone could believe that a trapped antenna based on a 40 year
old design (such as the Mosley) could possibly perform better than current
interlaced element designs...JK, Optibeam, Skyhawk, etc. Small trapped
tri-banders certainly have their place...size, weight, etc., but will they win
the performance wars...not likely."
