FWIW --
I found out recently that the use of a magnet is NOT a 100% guarantee that
the hardware is stainless! It would seem that there are several (2-3) grades
of stainless that are attracted by a magnet. I happen to have some bolts/nuts
that are of that type material that I am using to restore an old HyTower.
When approached by a large magnet, even though they are attracted, they do
leap with as much enthusiasm as a steel bolt.
Are there any metallurgical engineers out there that can elaborate on this
subject matter? It would be interesting to see a comparison of a Grade 8
bolt/nut pair to a grade (?) stainless pair as used in an antenna
application---
