Yup, the Spid has a very simple yet robust design. Nice worm gear system, no
brake, no stops. Just two wires for the motor (12-24 VDC). Direction is
switched in the controller by simply switching the polarity. Then two more
wires for the magnetic pickup positioner. The control box is a thin box with
large digital readout for the direction; nice when one gets a little older and
has trouble seeing small meter print. So only four wires out to the rotator.
North is determined electronically as well as the end stops; makes a great
rotator for side mounts where you want less than 360 deg of rotation. Also one
can enter in 6 presets that are activated with a special external mouse which
has buttons on its sides. Finally you can hook your computer to the control
box and have your logging program turn your beam. And at the same price or
less of comparable units and better specs, it's the rotator to have. Oh, the
motor and positioner pickup are externally mounted to the unit so one could
replace these without removing the rotator from the tower, I do believe. I'm
very pleased with mine and I'll let all know how it fairs this winter after
some good Chicago ice storms.
