I believe I have missed something here.

Basically, what is the problem statement?


Measuring and/or logging wind speed/direction? 


Early warning in order to be able to lower a tower? Of course one would have to 
be alerted and then physically be present 
to lower the tower. Unless one had an auto system to do that. No 
brainer. Many of the weather packages out there provide the alert 
mechanism via email and/or text and they can read a number of 
instruments. And a switch closure would not be difficult to design.
