Better yet, instead of complaining about the cover, why not write and article

welcome. Also, lots of pictures, staged or not, would also be very helpful.
Yes, there are some very god books that describe these things (including an
EXCELLENT one by K7LXC), but a good article would get wider circulation, and
maybe even a good picture on the QST cover with things done right.
It is very easy to write an email complaining or discussing things on an email
list. But a good magazine article is far better!
And I am sure the ARRL staff would really appreciate it.
and you'd get *paid* for it...
I think this is a great idea - Properly composed images showing the
"right way", and a selection of images, so the person doing the page
layout can pick and choose for composition (It's better to the subject
facing into the middle of the book, for instance; and avoiding having
text in the image, so you can reverse the image if needed)
One wants images showing just something important, and also the
generalized image - imagine that cover shot with a few minor changes -
snugged up harness, a good knot, safety glasses and gloves (you can
discuss whether needed or not, they "set the tone" for what's appropriate)
But, it *is* work (which is why you get paid).
