There are specially made Preforms for Phillystran ONLY. They're longer
and are designed for the jacket size and material. Other Preforms are
different.
There are specific Preforms for 1/4" EHS; there are OTHER specific
Preforms for 1/4" utility grade wire rope and they are different. Preforms
are precision parts and can ONLY be used for the product they're designed for
- NO mixing and matching.

About 10 years or so Philadelphia Resins changed the jacket formula from
the old stiff one that needed the sockets and potting resin to a softer PVC
material. While you can probably use the sockets with the current version of
Phillystran (I haven't checked with Phillystran on this), it's so much
easier, faster and cleaner to use the Preforms.
The Preforms are the factory authorized Phillystran terminations while
cable clamps are not.

It's either stiff or you can tie it in a knot - that's the difference. He
doesn't really need to contact Phillystran with that simple test. The aramid
fibers are the same - they just changed the jacket material.
