So you'd put the (shortened) top section inside your attic? I imagine you could
find a used top section and cut it down with a sawzall or torch.  Yeah, having
all the bracketry and shelf for the rotator would be handy. You could use
unistrut to go between rafters and joists to attach your tower section to.  But
that makes me think, maybe building something out of unistrut might actually be
easier overall - arranging a shelf with unistrut is easy, and because the
brackets "slide" getting it to fit and sit at the right height would be easy.
And all the parts are easily available mail-order or from local industrial
suppliers.

I'd wonder how you keep it from leaking? But I'm sure there's some sort of
"roof penetration that sticks up like a vent" with a "thing you attach to mast
that overlaps the roof pen" that would keep the rain out.

I can't put up a tower for various reasons but a friend told me that he
installed a homemade structure to hold up a mast, with the thrust bearing
and rotator motor inside his attic with the 2 inch mast going through a
hole in the roof. The antenna I want to use is a Mosely TA-33 with the
WARC option, too large and heavy for a roof tower, which I use for my
Hexxbeam and 6 meter yagi. I can reinforce (sister) both the floor/ceiling)
joists and rafters to accommodate the extra stress, but figured that a top
section of a tower that could accommodate both a rotator plate and thrust
bearing might save me some work and welding pipe and metal plates. I'm 73
and don't want the hassle and expense at this point in time of doing the
concrete work and getting a tilt base crank up tower.

Some online research revealed that commonly available Rohn top sections are
too long (I need less than 7 ft) and expensive. Can anyone suggest a
manufacturer who makes a shorter top section? I also considered using a
heavier roof tower mounted inside the attic but the antenna is a bit too
large and heavy for the one on the market that comes as a kit..

A used section would be perfect if I knew the manufacturer and model since
towers are being decommissioned all the time in this area and many are
hauled away as scrap. It has to accept a thrust bearing and rotator plate
and be less than 7 ft long.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
