I have found them to be very practical for 20-2meters in mobile use. I
have had good success with a 20 meter HamStick with 150-200pf across the
base. this lowers the SWR at resonance and allows <2:1 bandwidth across
nearly the whole band. The fiberglass shaft is of sufficient flexibility
to avoid using a spring if you can provide solid mounting. OF course the
nearer to 1/4 wave physical length you can get, the better you will hear
and be heard.

Gentlemen,
Not sure if you all have had the pleasure of viewing the web site with the
fellow who built a mini size 3 element 20 meter yagi using HamSticks mobile
whips as the elements. I'll try to locate the address for you all. I found
it by searching under altavista and entered "HamStick".

Was wondering if any of you have experience with these little gems.
Supposedly rated at 600 watts, around 7 feet long, and built very well. I
am
considering putting up a few on the roof to see how they work as
temporary/portable verticals. I already have the ground plane laid down on
the roof for my full suze 40 meter 1/4 wave vertical that is up there now.
I
was thinking about doing A/B checks using the same ground screen for both
antennas and using a remote switch to select the antennas for comparison.

Was wondering if there has been any research done concerning the efficiency
of these various brands of mobile antennas.
