A useful refinement, courtesy W9LT:

U-bolt one end of a short (3 ft or so) but stiff piece of tubing to the boom
at the center, parallel with and approximately in the plane of the elements.
Attach a pulley to the free end of this "tiller", also riding on the tram
rope or wire or whatever (guy wire is better than rope, as less drag).  With
the beam off the ground but reachable, adjust the u-bolts so that the
element tips are high enough to clear the top guys when it arrives at the
top.  When you pull the beam up, the tiller steadies it so that it rides
element-tips-up all the way to the top, and also prevents it from rotating
in its harness under the main carrier pulley.  The harness then needs only
be concerned with making sure the boom stays horizontal.
