Cliff, I was one who posted a "debunking" note on the virus alert. My
sole intent was to try to head off an avalanche of these messages, as
urban legends have quite a life. This one reappears about every 6
weeks, and is well documented as a myth.
>From the standpoint of wishing to help others, particularly those who
have helped you, your action was certainly appropriate and
appreciated. However, since the "intent to render assistance" is one
of the vehicles that propagates urban legends (and is one of the
trademarks of them) it is easy to get sucked in on them.
Please don't take personally any of the posts (including my own) that
may have left you thinking you had done something wrong. All you did
was fall for a trap that has caught lots of people.
