Rohn strongly states that steel should be used for temporary guys.
If you are using Big Grips, it is easy to employ an upper set of guys
as your temporary guys. Just lay them out and attach them to the top
of the first section [or sections] you are going to raise. Once the section
is vertical, secure the three guys somewhere near the real anchor using
Big Grips. This can even be the uppermost bolt on your eq plate.
Assemble additional sections up to first permanent guy point. Install
permanent guys, and remove temporary guys.
If your first permanent guy point is at 25-30 feet, and you're using Rohn 25,
and you have enough guys [here we mean "guys" with arms, legs and
the desire to get the tower up], you can assemble the first three sections
flat on the ground, place the mast inside, attach and lay out the permanent
guy wires . . . and CAREFULLY raise it all to vertical. With a good, patient,
well-directed group, this method saves incredible amounts of time.
