I'm working on putting up the 17 1/2 foot unit on my roof. I have it
assembled in the yard now, and have been pondering the way to get it
up. I'll have to remove one pair of the lowest horizontal braces, per
GME suggestion, to put it centered astride the peak, but it would be
better to have it off center, and I'm contemplating extending one pair
of legs to do that.
I'm planning on taking it apart into upper and lower sections,
mounting the lower section, and then using a 2x4 gin pole to raise the
upper section. I'm also considering getting a lightweight extension
ladder and lashing it to the tower for climbing, to take most of the
actual weight for antenna installation because GME says "We do not
recommend climbing this tower", although the horizontal braces on the
"ladder" face are angle instead of tubing, and I've been up it on the
ground. I suspect that this is lawyer language.
It does build up into a nice sturdy, lightweight unit, and I'm looking
forward to having it all in place.

I am responding to the the thread of "25g Roof Tower" K7LXC responded
below. I have seen the GME roof towers at Dayton and was quite impressed
with them. I would like to hear more from someone who owns one of these
things as to how it is holding up. Do you climb it to put on the beams?
What are the "ins and outs" of the roof towers?
