I've never run Heliax and its variants in the ground. Are they rated this
way by the manufacturers? I'm looking at running either 1/2" or 5/8" foam
lines in the ground. I'm fine with direct burial as long as the cable is
rated for it.

I direct bury Andrew Heliax. The PVC coating is very tough and the solid
copper shield should not allow moisture ingress if the coating becomes
nicked. If you shop around you can purchase new LDF4 for a good price,
less than Bury-Flex plus the PVC tubing. It has significantly less loss
and installation will be easier. There is no worrying about watertight
glue joints or PVC drain holes. If the cable is in an area where you might
dig, you can put something over the top for protection.

Hi all,
I am running Davis Bury-Flex out to a new 40M vertical in my back yard.
(Maine
coast.) As it is going across gravel walkways and near garden beds, and
will
not be that far below ground level, I am worried about it getting cut or
nicked
in the future from yard work, etc.
My plan is to use 1" sched 40 PVC conduit - the gray stuff - for protection.
(I will not be adding additional coax, wires, etc., ever, so this should
be big
enough.)
My Concern: the conduit will obviously become full of water - will freeze
cycles and the expansion of ice inside the conduit compress and therefore
damage the Bury-Flex in any way?
