The word "balun" is like "ground" -- it has many conflicting meanings,
and generates lots of confusion. Moreover, I suspect some parties to this
discussion are in the dark ages about baluns and chokes and how they
work. Our understanding of baluns and chokes has grown a lot over the
past 20 years.

If you're planning to build or buy a "balun" to feed any HF antenna, I
STRONGLY suggest that you study the tutorial that's on my website. The
NCCC guys and the PVRC guys and the members of local DX clubs have been
following my advice, and the universal report has been that they can hear
a lot better becauase their receive noise is a lot lower.
