Copper is very expensive at this time.

I'd go for galvanized mesh wire fencing [chicken wire?] .. quite  
inexpensive for a roll.

Make sure it's WELDED BEFORE galvanize, ir the 'joints' will be  
'diodes' and problematic.

You can solder to this stuff and connect a good ground to it easily.
