As I mentioned in a post to this reflector over a year ago, I use soft  
rubber balls  that fit INSIDE the end of the boom.   Some of them even  
have 'smiley faces' on them.  They last quite a bit longer than  
plastic caps on the OUTSIDE of the boom.
