Hi Dana.

I live on the west coast of Florida.  For years, my wire rope was never lubricated.  I've run galvanized 3/16" in excess of ten years at a stretch before removing and replacing it...just because.  It would always have some light powder to it and the occasional rust stained wire, but no heavy corrosion or patches of rust.

I now lubricate infrequently with NAPA Mac's Chain and Cable Lube - https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/MCR1370, so I no longer find the white powder on the rope that I did in the years past.  Many use Prelube 6 - https://www.championradio.com/Prelube-6-Cable-Lubricant.47

I suspect, like others do, that while changing the rope every three years is probably a foolproof strategy to keep you out of the doghouse, some of the verbiage from UST is no-doubt liability driven.

My US Tower TX-455 instructions say to replace the steel cable that raises
and lowers the tower section every 3 years. I assume that a lawyer wrote
that, but is it necessary to replace the cable at some point? My tower is
18 years old, it's in the desert, I lube it every couple of years, and it
appears to be in good shape.
