I spent 15 months in VO2-land with the USAF in the late 60s. At our VHF / UHF
ground-to-air transmitter site, we had 16 antennas atop 60 foot utility poles.
The coax entered the building then ran over the rungs of a horizontally
suspended grounded aluminum ladder behind the transmitter racks, the coax then
going down to its respective TX. If you were in that building with the lights
out, the wind blowing and dry snow flying, there was a veritable lightning show
on that ladder as the arcs flashed through the coax to the ladder. As a
result, the outside plant maintenance guys had to replace the coax often.
BTW, I live just over a mile from the Anderson Power Pole factory. Guess what
all our local club members use for their DC connectors? ;>)
