The best 160m antenna I ever had was in 1981. I put up 192 feet of Rohn 25G
tower and shunt fed it from the 60 foot level. That was a lot of insulators
and wire and rope clamps for six levels of guying!

It had 9 radials attached to the tower at 60 feet sloping toward a point about
100 feet out. Unfortunately I had to move soon after putting it up and had to
take it down. The suggestion of 9 radials (3 per tower leg) came from a friend
who had done work with WWV installations.

Although today it wouldn't be the very best antenna, competing with phased
arrays, it was very good at the time - good enough I would love to have the
same setup 35 years later. I may be wrong but believe In the CQ 160 contest,
1981 or 1982, from Arkansas, I made more contacts than anyone using that
antenna. The closest I will get is one day doing the same type of thing by
elevating a shunt feed on my 40m tower.
