MFJ has a very detailed explanation of how to determine 1/2 and 1/4 wave
lines in the instruction manual? Resistors aren't required in any case.

Why not just do it that way? And a good trick to use is to select a
meter range several harmonics above the actual frequency you want. The
null of the right hand meter will be much sharper. For example, if
you need a half wave for 14.040 Mhz., set the meter in the 84Mhz range.
When you get a reading at 6 * 14.040 ( in practicality, as close as you
can,)  you're home.
