Just a side note gang. The slump (consistency) of concrete is only
relevant to overall strength when it's put into context with the
water/cement ratio of the mix design.
A relatively wet slump (5-6") isn't a bad thing if the mix is designed
that way.
The question to ask the concrete supplier is at what slump the
advertised mix has to be to attain that strength. If you buy p.s.i. X at
a 2" slump, then it is going to be drastically weaker at a 5" and so on.
This is an old game that some suppliers play to produce good break
strength vs. cost . Cement is the most expensive component of concrete
and that's where the corners get cut. So when you find one supplier more
expensive than the other for the same product, you might find that's the
difference.
