For a HAM IV:
Pin #1 is the ground connection which also has the following connected to
it in the rotor:
wiper of potentiometer, one side of both motor windings, one side of the
brake solenoid winding, and the rotor case.
Pin#3 is one end of the potentiometer in the rotor.
Your assumption is incorrect. I can provide the rest of the connections
as well as typical resistance measurements (taken at the rotor) between
pins if you need them.
