For me, modeling was very helpful and was very accurate.

The purpose of my modeling was to design an antenna system which
would minimize interactions between antennas in a one tower SO2R
setup. My goal was to have 3 tribanders (upper 2 phased and lowest
one for mults on second radio), in addition to my Cushcraft 2 el 40 on
one tower.

I did lots of modeling of various tribanders, in various configurations of
phasing and pointing same and different directions. I went with TH7s
because they showed the fewest interactions. Several years of using
the system has borne out the accuracy of the models.

The money spent on the software was well worth it, and I learned a lot
too - similar to the satisfaction of a homebrew project.
