Just acquired some HyGain 20 meter yagis. Got to playing around with YO to see how much better they can be (yes, K6STI is still around and very responsive).

Since this is the first time I've ever tried this (yagis I built 30+ years ago didn't have the luxury of computer analysis), I'm wondering who else has tried to improve the HyGain yagis. The simulation result is a bit strange looking compared to stock, but I don't have any experience on which to base my gut feel. What I've ended up with (using equal trade off of gain/fb/swr) is a 5 element with a close spaced reflector and D1 (about 41 to 42 inches between the DE and each one). This is on the stock length boom (34 feet). The gain came up nicely, and the fb just starts to drop off at the low end of the band. For such a short boom it looks pretty usable. I'm using a small tower, so I can't really extend the boom very much.

Just wondering what kind of results anyone else has come up with in such an exercise..

tnx,

Ken K6MR
