Hi Folks,
I remove the TB-3 Allen screw out, insert a grease fitting and squeeze a
fresh ounce or two of lithium grease into the race every five years. I live
in a dusty climate during the summer. Found no significant accumulation of
dust particles, etc.
Perhaps the contamination noted in the previous emails wasn't from an
airborne outside source but instead a combination of fine steel particles
from the bearing that were wearing and rusting due to lack of lubrication
along with aluminum race particles being worn-off over the years. I've seen
this in a couple of Yasue thrust bearings that are significantly exposed to
the outside elements as compared to the TB3-4.

Unlubricated bearings? Maybe the reason you are wearing out the races. I
use Moly grease on all of mine, no problems yet...
