Shoes and boots are two of many product types that have, for the most
part, turned into imitations of the real thing. It is VERY VERY
difficult to find real shoes and real boots, no matter how hard you
look, and no matter much you are willing to spend.

I second the recommendation for a steel shank. Sorry -- I have no
recommendations. All I've been able to find for the last fifteen years
are either worn out from long use and long discontinued, or imitations.

I've looked at Red Wing at their stores in the past few years, and what
they are showing isn't even close.

The last time I bought boots, about four years ago, I tried ten
different models of about five different brands from Zappos, and settled
on the best of a bad lot. I think I paid about $270. I very much like
Zappos as a vendor, and I've looked at every brick and mortar store
within range, including places like RE and various mega-sporting goods
storesI. As near as I can tell, no one uses their boots to hike or
climb in the real world, but only on the imitation mountain faces in the
megastores. :)
