What, then, prevents you from measuring
the transmission line loss, and adjusting transmit power to
make up for it?

This discussion comes up almost every year on one reflector or another and is a waste of time and energy by all those involved. And after the eighth or ninth time it is just plain BORING.

The FCC rules are pretty explicit and their intent is even more so.
Other services properly use various forms of power measurement
at the antenna, but the amateur service does not. It is 1500
watts out of the amplifier. If you want to mount your amplifier
at the antenna then do so. Spend you time solving the technical
issues of remotely controlling your amp rather than trying to get
around the rules.

Private discussions with friends at the FCC in the past have
indicated that they could clarify the intent of the rules if pressed
but they feel they are already pretty clear. And that the general
political climate in Washington would probably also result in a
REDUCTION of power allowed by the amateur service if anything
along this line is brought up for clarification. ie This is potentially
a can of worms you don't want to open.

Let's get back to improving our antennas and towers and stop
trying to figure out ways to beat the system. By the discussions
on other reflectors it is apparent that many are running in excess
of 1500 watts anyway--so these discussions are really just attempts
to rationalize illegal activities.

Many of us are on this reflector for useful discussions on improving
the performance of our antenna systems--lets keep it that way. If
you want to start a reflector on how to break the rules then do it
on your own.

If you have a problem with me or my note--send it to me and not
the reflector. Most people are tired of rereading the same old stuff
every year or two.

Thank You! John W0UN
