I did get the 2800SDX controller working properly with a G1000 rotator,
interesting that the 2800 controller has the ramp down speed to stop
logic/ckts in it and they work ok also.
However, somewhere along the way the rotator was put together with the
CW/CCW stop switches not aligned with the internal pot. Before I take
it apart (again) to retime it, are there any instructions/posts about
how to get that set properly? i.e. going CCW I run out of needle
movement at 220 deg and the rotator continues to 180 deg and the switch
stop. Since many of the bearing balls always end up loose, I'd rather
do this accurately than several trials to retime it.
Note to self - always mark top and bottom case alignments before
loosening screws!
btw the mini-Molex connectors on some of the controllers end up with
weak/sprung pins, another PITA. Someday, I'll convert all of them and
the cables to a decent connector.

the 2700 and 2800 have an extra limit switch to do the automatic slowdown when
you get near the stops. that is the 6th wire that is used on them that isn't
used on the
800/1000 series. I have replaced all my control boxes with greenherons now.

The basic control/indicate design is the same in all, as far as I can tell.
A 500 ohm pot inside the rotator and a servo in the controller that nulls an
inside pot to match (not sure the value). The schematics and pcb
implementation inside the controller is a witches brew mess, and the gear
train + o-ring belt drive a total PITA to replace the o-ring pointer "drive
belt".
Shortly I will connect a 2800SDX control to a G1000 rotator as the G1000SDX
controller is flakey. Then one more cross over will be tested. If not,
then both controllers get pitched for a Green Heron.
My G1000SDA control works fine with a G1000SDX rotator, but having had the
rotator apart I think all G1000 rotators are identical. Might also be true
for the 2800 series.
Motors, gears and bearing arrangements are different among the rotator
families AFAIK. Limit switches look to be stock micro-switch variants.
I replace the bizarre keyed Jones type receptacle on the 2800 series
controls with a stock Jones 300 6 pin from Mouser. $5.
