The simplest for the rotator mount would be a piece of pipe The old
CD-44 I had a mast clamp on the bottom. You removed it to mount the
rotator on an accessory plate. The early rotators of this type all came
with the mast clamp on the bottom. I don't know when it was changed to
an accessory. In the early days (over 50 years ago) I dad several small
tribanders and monobanders (3L) mounted on 20 or 30 foot steel masts.
The thrust bearing could be mounted on a steel plate at the top of the
post. Mark out the bolt circle for mounting the bearing and use the
same center point for the center drill in a hole saw for the mast pass
through hole. I'd use a piece of at least 2 or 3" angle iron/steel X
1/8th in thick...or what ever is handt Mount the angles on opposite
sides using a couple of through bolts. Mount the bearing plate to the
angle with two bolts each. Use bolts and nuts, or thread the angle for
the plate screws. Alignment is not critical, but should be close
assuming you use 8 or 10 feet of mast between the rotator and bearing.
Don't forget the bearing and rotator need to be mounted far enough to
the side to clear the post.
It helps to have access to a drill press and some "C" clamps rather than
doing this with a hand held drill, but it can be done with only simple
tools. How you mount the rotator and bearing is open to a wide
variation. I'd use through bolts as the most secure. Threaded rod with
nuts and washers would also work. I'm assuming this will be a rather
short mast and small antenna.
Be careful with power tools and watch out for sharp edges and "burrs"
