Guys should attach to a guy bracket! A guy bracket is a substantial
assembly of 1/4" steel on a 25G. I don't know the width, but think it's
probably about 1.5 inches. The bracket assembly completely encircles the
tower. True you can get by with less on a lightly loaded, short tower.
That we can get away with less often gets translated and used for taller towers. Thirty feet with out guys? How do you work on antennas? Hinge it at the base? I know of one ham who is permanently disabled and living on pain pills when a 30' 25G broke over. How about insurance? 73 Roger (K8RI) On 12/14/2015 1:04 PM, Gary Schafer wrote: Hi Rick, Why wouldn't you just run all of the radial wires up over the foundation to a small ring or combined connections right at the tower? 73 Gary K4FMX-----Original Message----- From: TowerTalk [mailto:towertalk-bounces@contesting.com] On Behalf Of Richard (Rick) Karlquist Sent: Sunday, December 13, 2015 8:40 PM To: Stan Stockton Cc: towertalk@contesting.com; Jim Lux Subject: Re: [TowerTalk] Radial Connection to tower On 12/13/2015 1:16 PM, Stan Stockton wrote:Rick, OK. Just read this. What would your best suggestion be for me tomost effectively fix what I have described?Stan, K5GOI think the general advice is to have a ring around your foundation where the radials attach, and then another ring immediately around the tower. Between the rings you want a dozen or two "radials" that run across the concrete. No matter how good the ground radial system is outside the outer ring, you still need a good connection from the inner ring to the outer ring. If you skimp, you will see the apparent resonant frequency of the vertical go down. The bigger your foundation, the more important this is.
