60 years ago, not long out of EE school, I had a job driving around Chicago fixing audio and video systems. One of the most used tool in my box was a "contact burnishing tool." It's a thin strip of metal with both sides finely abrasive. I still have two of them.

To clean contacts on my paddle, I've used a piece of paper.
