FYI R7,R8 and other similar verticals from Hygain and MFJ are actually half 
wave vertical radiators. Those 47 inches "radials" are not radials at all, 
they are just another 1/8 of center fed vertical half wave radiator. Another 
3/8 of antenna is vertical portion trapped with 1/4 wave resonators and 
classic LC traps. 
Compared to a 1/4 GP with 3 elevated radials R6000 from Cushcraft performs 
better for 1 -2 S units on the air. Of course this is not valid way of 
claiming a performance but it was very nice to hear that from PA4AO who did 
actual testing numerous of times.
 Another good design of vertical radiators are ZR series from Force12 used in 
6Y contest expeditions.
