Depending on the orientation of the rotor, the plug does stick out. A big
drawback on those rotors in towers with small top sections. You might try
remounting the rotor 90 degrees and see where the plug ends up. Can't help on
the plug except to redo the whole thing. Maybe make a pigtail come out of the
rotor that you can route out of the way.
