Additional comments:

-You can find a carrier to use just one truck from origin to destination,
without transferring the load at terminals or onto other trucks, if you use
a CONSIGNED carrier, rather than a COMMON carrier. The difference is cost,
and sometimes quite a lot of cost (like double).

-As the price of fuel has skyrocketed lately (worse in CA than anywhere
else), the carriers are getting very picky about what they will and won't
carry, and their rates have increased. Unfortunately, it costs quite a lot
more to ship a tower today than it did just six months ago.

-As such, if it's an intrastate shipment (all within CA), you might be
better off renting a flatbed trailer and doing your own pickup and delivery
-- could turn out to be a lot cheaper, if you don't mind driving.

THAT IS THE BIG PROBLEM,,,,,

IT TOOK THREE TRYS TO GET A GOOD TOWER TO CHICAGOLAND..
maybe in the last three years the trucker learned NOT TO FORK IT...

I finally learned to go to the terminal to visually inspect it ...
If you can get it to stay on ONE trailer... much better chance of not
having the tower forked over.

The guys at U.S Tower were VERY cooperative thru the debacle.....
