Congrats on your purchase. A friend of mine recently obtained the same
antenna and is quite pleased with its performance. However I seem to push S
meters a bit further in limited comparison tests. Might be because I am at
150 feet vs. his at below 100 feet.
Does the 4 el work on 40 meters? The C-4XL weighs 65 pounds and has 8.2 sq
ft wind load rating.

According to the manual with my Steppir the matching circuit is a Jerry
Sevick design 2:1 balun on a 2 1/4 inch ferrite core. It sounds reasonably
simple and low loss to me. How much does the Force 12 weigh, the 4 element
Steppir is about 80 pounds. How well does the Force 12 work on 6 meters? The
Steppir claims 13 dBi gain and 30 dB front to back. Reliability may be a
problem with the Steppir, but I doubt it. All of important RF connections
are protected from the weather, and the radiating elements are Beryllium
copper, sounds better than an aluminum antenna to me.... I trust you
remembered to grease up all your joints before you put up the force 12.
I'll take the SteppIR....

Nice station!
Your SteppIR must have the complicated matching network to work for all
bands since element positioning is a compromise with the design. This
network is lossy.
By contrast, a Force 12 multi-monoband has no such compromise and no
associated loss.
Give me the Force 12 antenna for simplicity, strength and light weight.
BTW, my station:
Icom 775DSP, Alpha 87A, Force 12 C-4XL (soon to be a stack of C-4XL, C3,
C-4XL, C3 on 150 foot tower).
