The latest ARRL antenna book has complete info for 2 and 3 el 40m beams on p
11-23. There are graphs for gain, f/b, and swr as well as mechanical design
details. There is taper, diameter, and wall thickness for elements and
designs cover different boom lengths.

Scrap antennas (I've picked up some off the auction site), old
antennas that didn't work well, aluminum from Texas Towers, EMT from
the hardware store, only wire (had a 20 quad with eight elements
once). Lots of things.
